Selena Gomez finally opens up about her bipolar disorder

Mental health is no joke and many celebrities have opened up about their struggles with mental health. Selena Gomez is one of those celebrities who have been open about their struggles with mental health. One of Selena Gomez’s big struggles came in the form of bipolar disorder. The Wolves singer shared her thoughts when she was first diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Selena explained how the diagnosis left her both terrified and relieved. Being diagnosed with a mental disease can be terrifying for anyone but what I did not understand was, why the 30-year-old pop star was relieved. But I guess knowing what exactly is the reason behind depression and anxiety might give someone a certain amount of relief.

Coping with something so big can be hard for anyone coming to terms with something so life-changing, Selena Gomez went into depth about how she coped with the condition in her documentary that is all set to drop tomorrow. If you don't know then let me tell you her new documentary My Mind & Me is set to release on Apple Tv on November 4.

A small clip from her documentary was shared with Vanity Fair, where we could see Selena Gomez talk about her feelings after she received the diagnosis, “When I first got out, I didn’t know how I’d cope with my diagnosis. What if it happened again? What if the next time, I didn’t come back?” But one thing Selena said that really stuck with me was,” I needed to take it day by day”. I couldn't agree more. The road to recovery is not a sprint, it's a marathon.

And it’s the fear of the unknown that scares us the most and Selena Gomez is no exception. She shared that in her childhood she was scared of thunderstorms and lightning. So her mom stepped in and gave her books about lightning and thunderstorms which helped her understand it better. And the more you know about something the less you are afraid of it. And I guess knowing more about the bipolar disorder will help Selena Gomez better deal with her situation.

Back in October Selena Gomez shared another glimpse of her documentary My Mind & Me on her Twitter. She shared the clip on 10th October which is also World Mental Health Day. The bit she shared was all about being yourself. She could be seen saying “No one cares about what you’re doing. It’s about who I am, and being okay with where I am. I am grateful to be alive.” A very strong message indeed by Selena Gomez shared on World Mental Health Day. But putting out your most vulnerable self to the world is one of the bravest things anyone can do. And I believe Selena Gomez putting her documentary out there for everyone is nothing short of brave. Even though she questioned her decision of putting it out there. While talking to Vanity Fair she said “As nervous as I am to put out something this personal, in my heart I know now is the time. I hope that by sharing my experiences and difficulties, it will help people feel inspired to share their own stories, and to have hope that things can and will get better.”
