Kylie Jenner's lion-head enraged the netizens but why did PETA come to her rescue

Schiaparelli Spring-Summer 2023 was all about Kylie Jenner. You might think it’s bold of me to assume the couture show had only one headline and that was Kylie Jenner. Well, it’s not actually bold of me, rather I came to this outcome after I saw what was the reaction of the netizens when they saw Kylie Jenner at the Schiaparelli Spring-Summer 2023 couture show. Kylie Jenner blew people’s minds when she entered wearing a strapless black gown. I know that sounds very good but the gown had a life-size head of a lion. Yes, a life-size head of a lion was attached to the gown, and this was a part of the brand’s latest collection.

Honestly, when I saw the lion head for the first time I was left wondering if it was real or fake. The faux head looked hyper-realistic and was completed with a manicured mane. But the brand emphasized that the lion head was not real and “no animals were harmed in making this look”. The brand took to social media to clarify that “Embroidered lion in hand sculpted foam, wool, and silk faux fur, and hand-painted to look as life-like as possible, celebrating the glory of the natural world.”

It’s great that no animals were hurt in making the dress but I still fail to realize the whole point behind the clothing line. What was the brand thinking exactly? Were they trying to make a social statement or was it just their creativity taking a turn for the worse? Whatever it might be, the lion was not the only animal featured in the line-up. Apart from Kylie Jenner Irina Shayk also graced the ramp with a lion head. While Naomi Campbell was seen walking the runway with a wolf head and Shalom Harlow was spotted with a snow leopard head. I hope there were no animals in the Paris extravaganza, if they were there they would have been traumatized.

Schiaparelli’s creative director Daniel Roseberry had confirmed that all the animal heads were “Faux-taxidermy” and all the heads were sculpted and embroidered by hand. The brand further clarified by letting the public know their design was inspired by Dante’s Inferno. But their efforts did not yield much, and the netizens heavily criticized Kylie Jenner and Schiaparelli for promoting “trophy hunting” with their designs. The wife of former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Carrie Johnson also shared a video of Irina Shayk walking the ramp with the lion head gown on her Instagram story and wrote “ Grim! Real or fake, this just promotes trophy hunting. Yuck!”

Carrie Johnson was not alone; many netizens shared the exact feeling and expressed their opinion about the design being dark and how the clothing line glorifies the hunting of animals for fashion. But a huge surprise came when People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) praised the designs for being “fabulously innovative”. No this is not a PETA actually thinks these gowns were great and said” These fabulously innovative three-dimensional animal heads show that where there’s a will, there’s a way- and Kylie’s look celebrates the lion’s beauty and maybe a statement against trophy hunting, in which lion families are torn apart to satisfy human egotism.” The above statement was made by none other than PETA’s President, Ingrid Newkirk. His statement surely confused a lot of people who were angry at the fashion house for the animal head designs.

Who do you think is in the right here? Did the fashion house go too far with their animal head designs? Or are the people raging out for nothing and PETA is right to praise the animal head designs inspired by Dante’s Inferno? Comment down below your thoughts.
