Miley Cyrus writes a perfect breakup song and Gloria Gaynor approves!

Miley Cyrus has nailed it in her new song “Flowers” at least Gloria Gaynor thinks so. The 79-year-old icon praised Miley Cyrus’ breakup anthem. To be honest I’m not that surprised to know Gloria Gaynor loved the song as it was clear Miley Cyrus took inspiration from “I Will Survive”. Gloria Gaynor released “I Will Survive” in 1978 and the song made her the empowering music icon we all love today. After Gloria heard Miley’s “Flowers” she took to Instagram to praise the singer.

Gloria Gaynor added a clip of Miley Cyrus’s music video and wrote “I’m in Nashville working on new music and just heard, ‘Flowers,’ Your new song carries the torch of empowerment and encourages everyone to find strength in themselves to persevere and thrive. Well done Miley!” This is not a small feat that Miley has achieved, a shout-out from an icon surely calls for a celebration.

What makes it even sweeter for Miley Cyrus is she didn’t just get a shout-out from an icon, she got a shout-out from the icon she took inspiration from. At Least this is what the internet wants you to believe. If you have been active on social media after the release of “Flowers” then you must have come across mashups of Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” and Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive”. All the mashups more or less serve the same purpose; they show the melodic similarities between the two songs. But I have checked out Miley Cyrus’ track and I too am a fan of the song just like Gloria Gaynor. And if you are going through a heartbreak then you should definitely check out the song. The song very elegantly talks about finding self-love after heartbreak.

But “I Will Survive” is not the only song Miley took inspiration from. Well maybe we cannot call it inspiration but she surely replied to Bruno Mars’ 2012 hit “When I Was Your Man.” Bruno Mars in his hit song had lyrics like “I should have bought you flowers/ and held your hands/ Should have given you all my hours/ When I had the chance/ Take you to every party ‘cause all you wanted to do was dance.” Beautiful lines right! But Miley Cyrus claps back at those lyrics with her chorus. Mylie Cyrus sang “I can buy myself flowers/ Write my name in the sand/ Talk to myself for hours/ Say things you don’t understand/ I can take myself dancing/ And I can hold my own hand/ Yeah, I can love me better than you can.” Now that is some serious self-love.

No doubt “Flowers” is a great breakup song but the release date of the song made it more special. Cyrus released the song on the 33rd birthday of her ex-husband. Some might say this is a coincidence but I strongly disagree. Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth were married for less than a year and separated in 2019. The couple met while filming an adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ “The Last Song”. The couple got engaged in 2012 but tied the knot in 2018 after 6 long years. They separated in 2019 and after 4 years Miley Cyrus dropped her breakup anthem. I really do not know what is going on but it does feel like she can hold onto a grudge for a long time. What do you think? Why did Mylie Cyrus drop a breakup anthem after 4 years, comment down below!
