After the 2014 Met Gala, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and Beyoncé's sister Solange entered an elevator, where Solange scratched, kicked, and shouted at Jay-Z while Beyoncé watched. Only a week after the tragedy, footage from the elevator emerged, and everyone was left wondering what had happened. Beyoncé, Solange, and Jay-Z issued a joint statement on May 15, 2014, stating: that the most important aspect is that their family has persevered. It added that both Jay and Solange accept responsibility for the events that have occurred and that they are both aware of their roles in this private situation that has become public. It concluded by saying that they've both apologized to each other, and they have all moved on as a family. Despite the statement, speculations persisted, with many speculating that Solange's outburst was caused by Jay-Z's infidelity with Beyoncé. Rachel Roy, a fashion designer who was close to Jay-Z, was singled out by some.

The Met Gala is known for its unique outfits, but Madonna's 2016 Met ensemble caused quite a commotion. The singer wore a couture Givenchy dress that exposed her buttocks. Once the style became widely known, fans began to criticize Madonna for the amount of skin she exposed, with some claiming she "hijacked" the red carpet with her "desperate" image. The artist retaliated right away, posting an Instagram defending her outfit and calling it a political statement. "My outfit for the Met Ball was both a political and a fashion statement. The fact that some people believe a woman can't express her sexuality or be adventurous after a certain age demonstrates that we still live in an ageist and sexist society."

Who doesn't want to attend Rihanna's Met Gala afterparty? Eddie Redmayne learned the hard way after the 2017 Met Gala that it's a very exclusive invitation. Rihanna's post-party at 1OAK in New York City drew Redmayne, his wife Hannah Bagshawe, and fellow actor Tom Sturridge. The crew was turned away not once, but twice by security as they attempted to attend the party. The three were apparently turned away owing to capacity difficulties, so there's no ill blood between them.

Despite the fact that the 2017 gala's theme was not "naked," Russian artist Fyodor Pavlov-Andreevich crashed the event. Pavlov-Andreevich was found completely naked and confined in a glass box on the red carpet. He was first covered by a white sheet, but he eventually removed it, giving red carpet attendees a good look. According to witnesses, he was dropped off in an unmarked vehicle at a restricted area. When officers approached Pavlov-Andreevich, he refused to exit the box, forcing firefighters to hack it open.

Pavlov-Andreevich was detained on allegations of public lewdness, hindering governmental administration, criminal trespass, and disorderly behavior almost immediately.

Demi Lovato stated after the 2016 Met Gala that she and her friends had such a bad time that they would likely never attend the event again. It all started when Lovato walked the red carpet in a Jeremy Scott-designed Moschino gown. Scott had also dressed Nicki Minaj that night, so the three of them stood together for a few shots. Minaj tagged Scott in one of the photographs on Instagram, but not Lovato. "This picture pretty much summed up my first and probably last encounter #cool #sofuckingawkward #notforme," Lovato captioned a photo of Minaj shooting Lovato a major side-eye. Both Lovato and Minaj have already removed the photographs from their social media accounts.

In 2018, Lovato spoke to Billboard about their Met experience. They mentioned that one celebrity was a total jerk and a pain to be around. "It was a really cliquey environment. I recall feeling so uneasy that I wanted to drink." In actuality, Lovato left the event early to attend a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous.

And don't cross Wintour if you want to be invited to the Met Gala. After criticizing Rachel Zoe, Tim Gunn and Rachel Zoe both found themselves in hot trouble. Gunn claimed in a 2016 episode of Fashion Police that he was banned from the gala after saying that the most outrageous thing he had ever seen at a fashion event was watching Anna Wintour being carried down the stairs by two bodyguards after leaving a fashion show. Everything went to hell. It was completely insane. Since then, we've been at odds." Meanwhile, Zoe was reportedly dropped from the invite list after telling the New York Times that her work as a stylist was more significant for someone's career than being featured in Vogue and that she was more influential than Wintour.

Despite the fact that Zoe and Gunn were critical of Wintour, she stated that only one individual is permanently barred from attending the Met Gala. Wintour declared Donald Trump is the only person who will never be invited to the elite event during a game of Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts on The Late Late Show With James Corden.
