The Best Hallmark Christmas Movies to Watch With Your Kids

When there's tinsel everywhere, the smell of gingerbread in the air, and bits of leftover wrapping paper hanging around, you know it's that time of year: time to start planning the annual holiday movie marathon. And there's nothing wrong with staying in your cozy holiday jams and watching whatever Hallmark Christmas rom-com is on, but if there are kids around, they probably won't be into it.

Some of the best Christmas movies of all time are made for kids. These are some of the best Christmas movies for kids that we love and you also watch them with the whole family in 2022. You can gather everyone around with freshly popped popcorn strings and mulled wine (just kidding, we all know it's juice boxes and whatever snacks you have on hand). Some talk about the good things about the holiday, like spending time with family and being kind. Others are more laugh-out-loud Christmas comedies and (So. Many. Christmas songs!) If you're looking for a family-friendly holiday movie on Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, or any other service, this list of the best Christmas movies for kids is sure to have something for everyone.

The Christmas Project (2016)

In this movie, four brothers named Buckley make a lot of noise. They have a tradition of giving gifts in secret to a different family every year, and Matthew, who is 11 years old, is upset that his mom chose the family of the worst bullies. Even though you probably already know what happens next, it's a nice reminder that everyone needs a little compassion at this time of year.

Arthur Holiday (2011)

In this version of the North Pole, a team of well-trained elves takes care of Christmas. However, when one gift is left behind, it's up to Arthur, Santa's hapless son, to make sure that no child is left without a gift. Arthur is the underdog, which makes his journey feel even more successful.

Santa Buddies (2009):

In this movie, which is a spin-off of the Air Bud movies, a group of dogs are asked to help bring back the Christmas spirit. You can continue the story with The Search for Santa Paws and Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups, which are both prequels.

Jingle All the Way (1996)

Arnold Schwarzenegger has won the fight against Predators. He won against the Terminators. But Jingle All the Way knows that he can't beat the mob that wants to buy the hottest toy of the year on Christmas Eve. This should remind you to finish your shopping early.

Home Alone 1990

Okay, the best parts of this movie are about how Kevin, who is only 8, sets up booby traps to stop two thieves from breaking into his house, which isn't exactly in the Christmas spirit. But that experience definitely teaches him to appreciate the importance of being with his family during the holidays, which is something we all need to be reminded of once in a while. And if you've already seen the reboot and this movie and still want to see more funny kid stuff, there are always the sequels.

Olaf's Frozen Adventure (2017)

When Anna and Elsa find out that their family doesn't have any holiday traditions, Olaf sets out to find some for them. As he goes around the town and asks people about their family traditions, kids will remember their own special traditions. It's only half an hour long, so it's good if you need something quick to put on if you need some holiday cheer right away.

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (2018)

The Nutcracker is so creative, but you don't get to stay in the Land of Sweets for very long. In The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, Clara goes on another amazing journey that takes you deeper into this world. She starts to think that Mother Ginger might be a threat to the Realms, but could something else be going on?

Noelle (2019)

So many movies are about a father passing on the role of Santa Claus to his son, but what about the daughters? In this movie, Santa's son, played by Bill Hader, goes missing right before he's supposed to take over the big job, so Santa's daughter, played by Anna Kendrick, has to save Christmas.

Spirited (2022):

There have been movie versions of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens as early as 1908, and almost all of them are worth watching. Ryan Reynolds plays a hard-hearted person who can't be saved, and Will Ferrell is the Ghost of Christmas Present in this one. It has songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul that are sure to make people laugh and dance.

The Guardians of the Galaxy - Holiday Special (2022)

No one knows how, but the Guardians of the Galaxy are the Marvel heroes most people think of when they hear the word "Christmas." First, they get a LEGO advent calendar of their own. Then, there will be a holiday show on Disney+. But will Groot be able to wear lights for the holidays?
