What Makes Lili Reinhart Think she Won’t be Invited to the Met Gala 2023?

Lili Reinhart said she doesn't think she'll be invited to the 2023 Meta Gala because she criticized Kim Kardashian for losing weight just to fit into a dress. In case you missed it, the 42-year-old reality star walked the red carpet in May wearing Marilyn Monroe's famous "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" dress. You know, the one with all the crystals that the famous actress wore to sing for John F. Kennedy in 1962? That's the right one.

When asked by W Magazine about her criticism, the actor from Look Both Ways said: "It was great. But I don't think I'll be asked back after going again this year. I said something about a particular person wearing a particular dress."

For some background, the founder of SKIMS said she lost 16 pounds in three weeks so she could wear the dress to the most important night in fashion. She even told Vogue on the red carpet about how hard she worked to get ready: "I would wear a sauna suit twice a day, run on the treadmill, cut out all sugar and carbs, and only eat the cleanest vegetables and protein."

Even though Kim was adamant that she didn't starve herself but was "so strict" with her diet, Lili didn't agree with The Kardashians star's decision to do so for an outfit.

"To say out loud that you went without food so you could go to the Met Gala. When you know that a lot of young men and women look up to you and listen to everything you say, "she wrote back in May in an Instagram Stories post. "The ignorance is disgusting on a different planet."

Even though Lili didn't say Kim's name, it was clear who she was talking about. During her interview with W Magazine, the 26-year-old said that she doesn't feel bad about what she said. "I've always felt like I should stand for something. I don't like it when one of my comments turns into 17 articles in People magazine, but I don't think too much about what I post. It has to show how I feel in a real way. And I would say that no matter how many people followed me."

Kim Kardashian's decision to wear Marilyn Monroe's "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" dress to the Met Gala in was also criticized for other reasons. Many people online, including a Monroe historian, said they thought she damaged the dress.

Ripley's Believe It or Not! bought the dress at an auction in 2016 for $4.8 million. Kardashian wore it while she was there. The dress was made by Jean Louis, and Monroe wore it to a fundraiser for John F. Kennedy's birthday in 1962. Ripley says that the dress is now worth more than $10 million.

The Marilyn Monroe Collection is made up of the actor's personal items and papers. A historian in charge of the collection posted a few photos on Instagram that seem to show how the dress looked before and after the Met Gala.

"Without a doubt, the damage is serious," Fortner wrote in one post, adding that the "after" picture shows "crystals that are missing and some that are hanging by a thread." ChadMichael Morrisette sent him the picture, which he took on June 12 while it was on display at Ripley's Hollywood.

Fortner didn't answer right away when asked for a comment. But Morrisette told NBC News that he took the picture at Hollywood's Ripley's Museum on Sunday and sent it to Fortner.

"The fabric was completely frayed on both sides of the zipper, like shredded chicken," said Morrisette, an artist and costume expert who helped put the dress on display for the 2016 auction where Ripley's bought it.
